Okaloosa County home prices decline slightly in December, median at $430,000
Destin, Florida – In Okaloosa County, the typical house was priced at $430,000 in December, which is a bit less, by 1.5%, than what it was in November at $436,450, based on Realtor.com’s figures.
When we look back at the same time last year, in December 2022, the price was higher at $467,900, marking an 8.5% drop since then.

The size of an average home listed in Okaloosa County was 1,756 square feet, with a going rate of $266 for each square foot. This rate has slightly gone up by 1.1% compared to last December.

Houses in Okaloosa County weren’t selling very fast, staying on the market for an average of 73 days, which is longer than the national average of 61 days in December. This was a bit of an increase from 64 days the month before. About 396 homes were put up for sale in December, showing a 6.5% rise from 372 homes listed back in December 2022.
It’s important to note that the median home prices from Realtor.com might not cover all homes in an area. They mainly focus on single-family homes, condos, or townhouses that are already built, leaving out most newly constructed homes and those about to be sold or under contract.

In the larger area of Crestview-Fort Walton Beach-Destin, the median house price dropped a little to $639,250. The typical size of these homes was 1,837 square feet, priced at $468 per square foot.
In Florida, the median price for homes was $459,900, showing a slight decrease from the previous month. The average size of homes listed for sale in Florida was 1,661 square feet, costing about $278 for every square foot.
Looking at the whole country, the median house price was $410,000, also slightly down from the month before. The average size of homes listed across the U.S. was 1,838 square feet, with a price tag of $220 per square foot.

The median home list price, as mentioned in this analysis, is the middle value of all homes listed during a certain time frame. Experts believe using the median gives a truer picture of the market’s condition than using the average price, which could be affected by very high or very low sales.
