Kids under 14 invited to compete in free catch-and-release fishing event in Destin

Destin, Florida – Young fishermen in Destin will have another chance to show off their skills when at the 27th Annual Pinfish Classic this September. The event will take place on Saturday, November 1, 2025, and the lines will strike the water at 7 a.m.

Everyone under 14 can join in the catch-and-release tournament for free. The event will be held at the Highway 98 pier behind AJ’s Seafood Restaurant, which is a popular venue for many people in the area. The Parks and Recreation Department in Destin is encouraging families to come out and spend the morning on the ocean while helping young fishermen in a safe and pleasant setting.

Kids who want to compete should bring their own fishing poles. Event officials will provide the bait. The guidelines are easy to follow: you can only fish from the pier and dock area behind AJ’s. This family-friendly tradition has become a mainstay in Destin over the years. It gives kids an opportunity to learn about fishing while also encouraging sportsmanship and friendship.

There will be awards in a number of different areas. The anglers who catch the biggest and tiniest pinfish in each age group will win prizes. The angler who catches the most fish will also get a prize. These awards make sure that every competitor has an opportunity to shine, whether they catch a single little fish or beat the rest of the field.

City organizers want parents and guardians to bring their kids to the event not just to compete, but also to make experiences that will last a lifetime. The event shows how important fishing is to Destin and lets youngsters in the area see it for themselves.
