Fort Walton Beach woman charged after witnesses say beer bottles were thrown hard at young child

Fort Walton Beach, Florida – What began as a routine evening in the Fort Walton Beach area quickly turned into a frightening scene for a family on Circle Drive, where deputies say a woman is now facing a serious charge after allegedly throwing beer bottles toward a three-year-old child.
According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 6:30 p.m. to a disturbance in the 500 block of Circle Drive.
By the time they arrived, witnesses had already begun describing a chaotic encounter that unfolded after Carolyn Miller reportedly fell from her bicycle.

Investigators say the situation took a disturbing turn when a young child, apparently trying to see whether Miller was okay, walked toward her. Instead of accepting help or pulling away, Miller allegedly grabbed two beer bottles and hurled them in the child’s direction.
Witnesses told deputies the bottles were thrown hard enough that, had the child not ducked, he could have been struck in the head.
The child’s parents saw the episode happen, authorities said, and their account was backed up by multiple nearby residents who later gave sworn statements. That collective testimony became a central part of the investigation as deputies worked to piece together exactly what led to such an alarming moment in what had been an otherwise ordinary neighborhood setting.
When deputies made contact with Miller, they said she could not give a clear or coherent reason for what had happened. The only explanation she reportedly offered was that she believed she was being attacked. Authorities also noted that she had a minor finger injury that was consistent with a fall from a bicycle.

Even so, investigators determined the alleged response went far beyond confusion or panic. Throwing glass bottles toward a toddler, especially with the kind of force witnesses described, created the possibility of severe harm in an instant. Although the child was not hurt, the outcome could have been far worse.
Miller has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. No injuries to the child were reported.
