Team DeSantis starts campaign to permanently end mRNA vaccine mandates for children in Florida

Tallahassee, Florida – Along with First Lady Casey DeSantis, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has taken a strong position against mandatory mRNA vaccines, advocating permanent legislative measures that guarantee the protection of patient freedom throughout the state in a major step to supporting medical freedom.

Three main areas of advocacy for the Governor and First Lady concentrate on stopping the federal government’s recommendation of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines for children, implementing permanent state prohibitions on mRNA vaccine mandates, and including vaccination status protections into Florida’s Patient’s Bill of Rights.

Federal recommendations and children’s health concerns

Starting their campaign, the DeSantis team attacked the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for their continuous guidance on giving young people the COVID-19 vaccination. Governor DeSantis underlined that, especially with healthy youngsters between the ages of 5 and 17 current studies suggest that the mRNA vaccinations could cause more harm than benefits.

These studies suggest an association with higher-than-expected adverse effects, a point of contention since the vaccine’s emergency authorization.

“Guided by common sense and sound science, Florida has led the way in protecting patients’ rights. Now is the time to secure these protections and do even more to defend medical freedom,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Let’s keep Florida the beacon of freedom in health care, where the rights of all patients are enshrined permanently in law.”

Urging legislative action to safeguard freedom

The Florida Legislature has an urgent need to act quickly since existing rules protecting against mRNA requirements are about to expire on June 1, 2025. The expiration of these laws could lead to mandates by educational institutions and employers, requiring mRNA vaccinations as a condition for attendance or employment.

“Today, Governor DeSantis, Surgeon General Ladapo, and I called on the Florida Legislature to make permanent the prohibitions against the COVID mRNA vaccine mandate,” said First Lady Casey DeSantis. “Florida stood in the breach to protect people during COVID, now it’s time to make sure these protections last.”

Expanding the Patient’s Bill of Rights

The idea to change the Patient’s Bill of Rights to reflect vaccination status serves as yet another main focus for the Governor and First Lady. This amendment will prohibit facilities and healthcare professionals discriminating against patients based on their vaccination decisions.

“Today, Governor DeSantis, Surgeon General Ladapo, and I called on the Florida Legislature to make permanent the prohibitions against the COVID mRNA vaccine mandate,” First Lady Casey DeSantis added.

Support from state officials

“I am deeply grateful to Governor Ron and First Lady Casey DeSantis for continuing to put the needs and rights of Floridians first,” said State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph A. Ladapo. “These proposals will strengthen the sovereignty of patients, and we look forward to advancing these issues with our federal partners at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.”

The DeSantis administration continues to emphasize the need of keeping Florida as a shining example of health care freedom, where patient rights are not only valued but also deeply embedded in legislation as they move forward with this initiative.
