Okaloosa deputies arrest wrong-way BMW driver after near head-on crashes in Shalimar

Okaloosa County, Florida – Okaloosa County deputies took a driver into custody early May 3 after several people reported a red BMW traveling the wrong way in Shalimar and nearly causing head-on crashes along Eglin Parkway.

According to information shared by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office on Instagram, deputies received multiple calls during the early morning hours about the vehicle. Callers said the BMW was creating an immediate danger for other drivers, with several reporting near head-on collision crashes while traveling on the roadway.

Deputies moved quickly into the area and soon spotted a vehicle matching the description. By that point, the BMW had visible damage on the driver’s side and was traveling with two flat tires, according to the sheriff’s office.

A traffic stop was initiated, but authorities said the driver did not yield when deputies attempted to pull the vehicle over. The situation ended with the driver being taken into custody without incident.

The driver is now charged with DUI and Fleeing & Eluding, the sheriff’s office said.

No additional details about possible injuries, the driver’s identity, or what led up to the incident were immediately released. The agency said more information will be shared when it becomes available.
