City of Destin opens door for residents to help shape growth redevelopment and waterways decisions

Destin, Florida – Destin residents who want a closer role in shaping local decisions now have a chance to step forward, as the City of Destin is looking for interested and qualified people to serve on several public boards and committees.

The most immediate need is for residents to serve on the Board of Adjustment, but city officials are also inviting applications for openings on the Town Center CRA Advisory Committee and the Harbor & Waterways Board.

These groups help support the work of city government by reviewing important community matters, offering recommendations, and giving residents a direct voice in decisions that affect Destin’s future.

For many residents, serving on a board or committee can be a meaningful way to stay involved beyond attending meetings or following city updates from the outside. It gives local citizens a seat at the table, especially on issues tied to growth, redevelopment, waterways, neighborhoods, and the overall quality of life in the city.

The city has posted additional information online, including descriptions of each board and committee, application materials, and related details. Residents can review those resources through the City of Destin’s Boards and Committees page. Applications listed by the city include a Board/Committee Application and a Youth Council Application.

There are specific requirements for those who want to apply. An applicant must live within the incorporated city limits of Destin. For the Harbor CRA Advisory Committee and the Town Center CRA Advisory Committee, three of the City of Destin residents may serve as at-large citizen members. The other four members must meet at least one additional requirement connected to the redevelopment area they would represent.

Those requirements include being a resident of the respective redevelopment area, owning a business there, working for a business located in that area, owning property there, or serving as a principal of a property owner in the respective redevelopment area. Maps for both the Harbor CRA and Town Center CRA are also available through the city for residents who need to confirm whether they qualify.

Residents who want more information may contact the City Clerk’s Office at Destin City Hall, located at 4200 Indian Bayou Trail. Questions may also be directed by phone to 850-837-4242.
