Fort Walton Beach drivers should expect minor delays as city begins three-day drainage project on Wright Parkway

Fort Walton Beach, Florida – Starting on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, drivers on Wright Parkway in Fort Walton Beach should be ready for some minor delays as stormwater pipe repairs are set to begin.
The project is set to begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday and last until Thursday, July 10, weather permitting. It will take place between Hollywood Boulevard and the entrance to the Fort Walton Beach High School football stadium. Personnel will fix the subterranean stormwater pipes by injecting a special sealant that is made to fill up fractures and cover gaps. This will help keep groundwater from getting into the stormwater system.
City authorities stressed that this work is necessary to make the area’s drainage system more reliable and efficient. Any delays in the schedule will depend on weather conditions, especially since the repairs involve systems that handle rainwater runoff.
During the repairs, drivers should expect certain lanes to be closed, especially the center turn lane. But traffic going both north and south will still be able to move, and there are no plans to close the route completely. Drivers may also observe flaggers and traffic control equipment in the work zone to keep traffic moving safely.
The City of Fort Walton Beach has sent out a notice asking drivers to be careful and patient while the work proceeds on. Officials praised the public for their patience while they make these needed upgrades to the city’s stormwater system.
