Florida captures 15.5 percent of U.S. vacation market marking sixth straight record year

Tallahassee, Florida – Setting a new record for domestic travel in 2024, Florida has again verified its status as America’s preferred vacation destination. Under Governor Ron DeSantis’s administration, the Sunshine State captured a historic 15.5% percent of the U.S. vacation market, a rise from the previous year and a proof of its ongoing attractiveness. Since 2019, this accomplishment has been the sixth record-breaking year, confirming Florida’s leadership at the head of travel sites across the nation.
“Florida is the world’s favorite place to visit,” said Governor Ron DeSantis in a news release. “This record tourism is a result of policies that prioritize freedom, public safety, and common sense.”

The state’s successes in tourism are not limited to the domestic scene. Data from early 2025 points to a strong foreign performance as well, especially from Canada, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Argentina. Though Canadian tourism to the United States is generally declining, Florida had a 0.5% rise in visitors arriving by plane from Canada. Furthermore, foreign visitors increased by 6.5%, highlighting the state’s global attractiveness.
Equally remarkable are the total visitor counts for 2024: Florida will host 142.9 million visitors, an increase of 1.6% over 2023. This number surpasses the previous all-time high for annual visitation achieved in 2023. Including around 30 million domestic visitors, 2.5 million from abroad, and 742,000 Canadians, the fourth quarter alone witnessed 33.1 million visits—the largest ever for that time frame.

These figures not only show Florida’s magnetic appeal but also stress its vital importance in the larger economic scene. A key pillar of the economy of the state, the tourist industry helps to provide jobs and support communities. Florida confirms its leadership in the world travel sector as it draws visitors in unprecedented numbers, hence offering significant economic advantages as well as opportunities for cultural exchange.
Florida remains a top choice for travelers looking for different and rich experiences with its many attractions ranging from world-famous theme parks and beaches to distinct cultural and natural areas.
