Florida achieves historic graduation rate, sets new record with 89.7% high school graduation rate for 2023–2024
Florida – In an announcement that underscores the Sunshine State’s commitment to education, Governor Ron DeSantis revealed that Florida has achieved a new milestone in its educational achievements. With excluding the years affected by the pandemic, the high school graduation rate for the 2023–2024 school year came out as an amazing 89.7%, the best rate in Florida’s history.
Rising 1.7% from the year before, this record-setting number exceeds the pre-pandemic high of 86.9% reached in the 2018-2019 school year. This success establishes a new benchmark for next educational initiatives in the state and indicates a definite recovery from the disturbances that the epidemic brought in the classroom.
Governor DeSantis credited a set of educational policies stressing student needs and parental choice for this success.
“Florida leads the nation in education because we put education over indoctrination, empower parents, and have made school choice universal,” said Governor Ron DeSantis in a news release. “This record graduation rate is a prime metric of our success, in addition to our #1-in-the-nation rating.”
Especially for minority and underprivileged students, the breakdown of the graduation rates among various demographic categories indicates appreciable increases. While Hispanic students improved by 2.2 percent over the past year, African American students saw their graduation rates rise by 2.1 percent. With a 4.6% increase from the previous year, English language learners particularly showed the most notable rise, therefore highlighting the success of focused teaching plans.

Students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and those with impairments also made an outstanding improvement. Their graduation rates increased by 1.3 and 2.4 percentage points over the past year, respectively, suggesting that Florida’s educational improvements are inclusive and wide-based.
“Florida’s graduation rate continues to climb,” said Florida Department of Education Commissioner Manny Diaz, Jr. “Florida is number one for education because of our commitment to providing a quality education that fits the needs of each student, and our climbing graduation rate is proof positive that our approach is working. Under the leadership of Governor DeSantis, Florida will continue to lead the nation in educational success.”
Under Governor DeSantis, Florida’s educational system has undergone significant modifications meant to increase the flexibility and quality of education, which many believe have directly helped to raise the graduation rates. Long term, Governor DeSantis’s appointment has seen the state’s graduation rate rise from 70.6% to the present 89.7%, therefore demonstrating a strong improvement in educational results.
This milestone is more than a statistic; it represents the aspirations of thousands of students who now have a stronger foundation for their future endeavors. The emphasis stays on improving educational policies to guarantee that every student has the chance to excel in their academic and future professional careers as Florida keeps building on these successes.
