Fort Walton Beach launches January Neighborhood Clean-Up for free large item disposal

Fort Walton Beach, Florida – Fort Walton Beach residents, get ready to clear out the clutter! This January, the City of Fort Walton Beach is returning its much-anticipated semi-annual Neighborhood Clean-Up program, which provides an easy way for locals to free of charge dispose of big, unwelcome home items.

The city’s home garbage collecting staff will be making extra pickups for objects too large to fit in regular garbage cans throughout the month-long project. Accepted goods are appliances, mattresses, furniture, and like-sized big stuff. Residential customers only within the city limits can get this complimentary service.

How it works

Pickups will occur on your regular yard waste collection day. The city’s sanitation crew will handle the rest; all you have to do is arrange your large objects near the curb so they are clear of fire hydrants and above-ground utility boxes. The initiative seeks to make house cleaning simple for neighbors so as to maintain the cleanliness and appeal of the community.

Not all objects, nonetheless, are qualified for collecting. Materials that are forbidden include construction debris, concrete, bricks, glass, tires, and dangerous chemicals. Okaloosa County’s specialist facility on Ready Avenue, which accepts hazardous home items including paints or chemicals, can be used by residents with such waste.

A community effort

The Neighborhood Clean-Up program underscores Fort Walton Beach’s commitment to fostering a clean, vibrant community. Twice a year, the city provides this service to help citizens properly dispose of goods that may otherwise cause ugly curbside piles or illegal dumping.

Residents can visit the residential trash collection webpage or call the City of Fort Walton Beach Sanitation Division at 850-833-9655 for further information regarding the schedule and guidelines.
