Families in Fort Walton Beach invited to explore 113-year-old schoolhouse decorated for the holiday season

Fort Walton Beach, Florida – The City of Fort Walton Beach Heritage Park & Cultural Center is getting ready for a fun weekend. The Camp Walton Schoolhouse Museum will be holding its annual Christmas Open House. The event will occur on Saturday, December 6, 2025, and it will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., giving visitors a full day of Christmas fun.

The open house is meant to be a free community event that invites families and history lovers to visit one of the city’s most important historical landmarks. The 113-year-old schoolhouse will be decorated for the season, making it a happy setting for the day’s events. Throughout the museum, there will be children’s crafts, old-fashioned toys, and vintage games that will give younger visitors a taste of the past through simple, hands-on enjoyment.

The party goes on outside of the school. The Garnier Post Office Museum and the Civil War Exhibit building will also be decorated for the event. Visitors will be able to walk around several historic areas while enjoying light snacks. The concept of these buildings will be the same as it was in the past: community and tradition.

Butter-churning demonstrations will be one of the best parts of the day. Guests will be able to observe the process and then taste fresh samples. The activity makes the event more informative by linking local history to everyday living in the past.

The new Museum Store will also be open for the first time during the Christmas Open House, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. As they finish their holiday, visitors can look through things and presents that are related to the area.
