Fort Walton Beach warns past-due utility accounts could face shutoffs again after Nov. 16
Fort Walton Beach, Florida – For Fort Walton Beach utility customers still catching up after the hurricane, a temporary financial cushion is about to end. The city says its pause on late fees and service shutoffs will remain in place only a little longer.
Beginning the week of Monday, Nov. 16, 2026, Fort Walton Beach will return to its normal delinquency process for utility accounts. That means customers with overdue balances could once again face late fees and, if their accounts remain unpaid, possible service disconnection.

The City of Fort Walton Beach temporarily suspended those measures following the hurricane, giving residents and other utility customers additional time to recover without immediately facing penalties for past-due bills. The suspension was part of the city’s response to the storm’s impacts.
With regular processing scheduled to resume, city officials are urging customers who owe money to check their accounts now rather than wait until the week of Nov. 16.
Customers with outstanding balances are encouraged to make payments before delinquency processing starts again. The city’s announcement does not describe any additional extension beyond that date.
Anyone unsure about an account balance, payment status or the city’s utility procedures can contact Fort Walton Beach Customer Service. Information is available through the city’s Customer Service webpage.
Customers can also reach the department by phone at 850-833-9591 or by email at [email protected].
The return of late fees and disconnections marks another step toward normal operations after the hurricane. For customers who used the temporary suspension to gain extra time, the next two weeks provide an opportunity to review overdue charges and address them before the city’s standard rules take effect again.
Fort Walton Beach officials thanked residents for their patience and understanding as the city continues dealing with the hurricane’s effects.
