Okaloosa schools are hiring bus drivers and applicants do not need to arrive with a CDL already in hand
Okaloosa County, Florida – For Okaloosa County residents who have ever wondered what it is like to sit behind the wheel of a school bus, two October hiring events will offer a chance to do more than simply ask questions. Prospective drivers will be able to climb aboard, test-drive a bus and explore a possible career with the local school district.
The Okaloosa County School District is holding two Bus Driver Job Fairs this month as it looks to connect community members with opportunities in its Transportation Department. Both events will include on-site application help and information about paid training needed to earn a Commercial Driver’s License, or CDL.
The first job fair will take place Monday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Transportation South Bus Barn, located at 1978 Lewis Turner Blvd. in Fort Walton Beach.
A second event is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 15, also from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Transportation North Bus Barn, 555 Anderson Street in Crestview.
By hosting events in both Fort Walton Beach and Crestview, OCSD is giving prospective applicants the option of attending the location that works best for them.
During the job fairs, visitors can learn directly about the work involved in becoming an OCSD school bus driver. The position centers on transporting students safely to and from school each day and is part of the district’s broader transportation operation.

The events are also designed to give applicants a hands-on introduction to the job. Attendees will have an opportunity to test-drive a school bus rather than relying only on a written job description. Human Resources staff will be available to answer questions and help interested candidates complete applications on-site.
For applicants who do not already hold the required commercial license, the district will provide information about its paid CDL training. That gives prospective drivers a path to learn about the licensing process while considering employment with OCSD Transportation.
No single location is required for applicants. Interested residents can attend whichever of the two job fairs is more convenient and can apply during the event.
Those seeking additional information about the Bus Driver Job Fairs or employment opportunities with the district can contact the Okaloosa County School District Human Resources Department at 850-833-5800.
