Destin, Florida – A major change is about to reshape the school day at Destin Elementary. Thirty new classrooms are ready, fifth graders are returning, and the campus is gaining space designed specifically for its older elementary students.
The Okaloosa County School District will mark the completion of the school’s new grades 3-5 center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 12. The celebration will take place at Destin Elementary School, 630 Kelly Street in Destin.
The expansion includes a 30-classroom addition, a multipurpose building and a new administrative wing. Together, the facilities provide dedicated instructional areas for students in third through fifth grades while increasing the campus’s overall capacity.

One of the most significant changes is the return of fifth-grade students from Destin Middle School to the elementary campus. District leaders said the move will help reduce dependence on portable classrooms and place students and teachers in modern spaces created to support learning.
“This expansion reflects the school district’s ongoing commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities while meeting the needs of our growing community,” Superintendent Marcus Chambers said.
Chambers said bringing fifth grade back to Destin Elementary will create additional capacity and give teachers and students improved learning environments. He also thanked the community for supporting the district’s efforts to prepare schools for both current enrollment needs and future growth.
Principal Amy Morgan said the new 3-5 Center represents continued investment in Destin Elementary students and staff.
“We are incredibly excited to welcome our students, families, and staff into our new 3-5 Center,” Morgan said. “This expansion is a reflection of the continued investment in our students and provides our teachers with the dedicated learning spaces needed to support student success.”

Morgan also credited the planning and partnerships that helped move the project from an idea to a completed campus addition. She said the school is looking forward to the opportunities the new space will create for the Destin Elementary community.
The project is part of the district’s broader effort to manage capital resources, plan for growth and ensure schools have enough classroom space and suitable facilities for future generations.
