Fort Walton Beach invites residents to grab gloves and restore neighborhood pride at a community cleaning event on Jan. 24

Fort Walton Beach, Florida – As part of the ongoing Cleanest City on the Emerald Coast program, a community cleaning will take place later this month. Volunteers will work together to make a neighborhood in Fort Walton Beach better. On Saturday, January 24, in the morning, there will be another coordinated garbage pickup. This time, the focus will be on the W.E. Combs and Sylvania Heights area.
The event will be from 8 to 9 a.m., giving people a brief but meaningful opportunity to help make the world a cleaner place. People who want to help clean up are urged to meet at the Okaloosa Academy Charter School, which is at 720 Lovejoy Road Northwest. This will be the gathering place before the cleanup starts. Organizers have chosen streets nearby that have a lot of foot and car traffic, so they are the first to get rid of trash.
Once everyone is there, the group will split up and pick up trash around Hill Avenue and Lovejoy Road. These corridors connect neighborhoods and are often utilized by families, students, and commuters. City officials maintain that maintaining these roadways clean makes the neighborhood seem better and makes it safer overall, which also boosts community pride.
The city will give volunteers basic cleaning supplies like buckets, gloves, and trash pickers to help them. If you already have your own equipment, please bring it with you to help speed things up and make sure everyone is ready. The event is meant to be open to everyone, with no special skills needed, so it’s easy for people who have never volunteered before to join.

The Cleanest City on the Emerald Coast project continues to rely on people in the area to help out. It focuses on little, regular efforts instead of big, one-day campaigns. Organizers say that even an hour of cleaning up may make a big difference and help keep trash out of storm drains and local waterways.
People who live in Fort Walton Beach and want more information about the cleanup on January 24 should call the Public Information Office at 850-586-7855 or send an email. City authorities want everyone who can to come that morning and help keep the area clean.
