Okaloosa County Public Library Cooperative marks five years of success with 52 adult graduates in Career Online High School
Okaloosa County, Florida – Celebrating the 52 adult graduates from the Career Online High School program, the Okaloosa County Public Library Cooperative (OCPLC) marks a great step towards adult education. Having achieved this over five years, this success emphasizes the vital contribution public libraries make to promote community development and lifetime learning.
The Career Online High School curriculum specifically serves adults whose various life events interfered with their high school education. These people range in experience from financial restrictions and homelessness to unexpected pregnancies and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic; they are stay-at-home mothers, working parents, and local business owners.
The OCPLC’s project shows a great commitment to empower individuals through education, thus helping them to overcome personal challenges and reach their learning objectives. The program provides flexible online courses available 24/7 together with academic coaches and trained teachers’ help. This framework is meant to fit the particular schedules and obligations of adult students so they may pursue their high school diplomas at their own pace and under their own terms.
Paul Mixon, Chairman of the Okaloosa County Board, expressed his pride in the program’s success.
“I am proud of the lives that have been touched by this program over the years,” Mixon said in a press release. “Their successes in overcoming their individual hardships will contribute to building a better community and I look forward to seeing more adults utilize this valuable asset. I am proud of this year’s class of graduates and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.”

The alumni, who fall between their 20s and their 50s, show the diverse impact of the OCPLC’s work. They will be honored at a graduation ceremony scheduled for October 5, 2024, at the Niceville Community Center. Open to the public and the media, this event not only honors the graduates’ successes but also acts as evidence of the ability of community support to enable educational successes.
“Public libraries facilitate lifelong learning for people of all ages at the different stages of their lives,” said Vicky Stever, Coordinator of the OCPLC. “We give people the tools to help them achieve their goals. Administering tuition scholarships and supporting adult students as they complete their diplomas is one of the most joyous and impactful services we offer.”
Further information on the Career Online High School curriculum and application details can be found on the OCPLC website for those motivated by the stories of this year’s graduates or anybody considering finishing their high school education.
This project not only marks a great success for the graduates individually but also for the whole Okaloosa community, demonstrating that it is never too late to follow educational goals and change one’s life through knowledge.
