Free summer meals will be served across Okaloosa County to children 18 and under

Okaloosa County, Florida – Okaloosa County Schools is preparing to help keep children fed during the summer break through its participation in the 2026 Summer Food Service Program.

The program, known through Summer Break Spot, will provide balanced breakfasts and lunches at no cost to children 18 and under while school is out. Meals will be served at approved school locations during the listed times, giving families a dependable option when regular school breakfast and lunch programs are not available.

This year, meals must be eaten on site. According to the program rules, there will no longer be meals to go, and all food must be consumed at the serving location as directed by USDA and FDACS guidance. The change means families should plan for children to remain at the site while eating.

The summer meals are available at no cost to all children who visit participating locations. Children do not have to be enrolled in summer school at that site to receive a meal. School-based feeding locations are open to children in the immediate area as well as students attending summer programs there.

The district said nutritionally balanced meals will be provided to all children regardless of race, color, sex, disability, age, or national origin. The program is designed for areas where there is a demonstrated need, specifically places where 50 percent or more of children qualify for free or reduced-price meals during the regular school year.

For many families, summer can create a gap. The school year brings steady routines, cafeteria meals, and a familiar schedule. When classes end, those supports can become harder to reach. The Summer Food Service Program is meant to help close that gap by making breakfast and lunch available in the community through approved sites.

Meals will not be served on weekends or on July 3. Families are also encouraged to review the posted schedule often, since a site’s operating times may change or a location may close depending on participation.

Okaloosa County Schools will provide meals only during the indicated dates and times at the listed school sites. Parents and guardians should check the full schedule before visiting a location to confirm when meals are being served.
