Fort Walton Beach schedules neighborhood code compliance sweep as part of cleanliness campaign

Fort Walton Beach, Florida – As part of the city’s continuous cleanliness campaign, city officials in Fort Walton Beach are preparing to carry out another neighborhood-focused code compliance effort. The Community Code Compliance Sweep will happen on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon.
The endeavor is part of the larger “Cleanest City on the Emerald Coast” program, which strives to make neighborhoods more attractive and strengthen communication between city personnel and residents.
During the sweep, code enforcement officials will focus on a specific part of the city. The region that is being targeted goes from Memorial Parkway east to Robinwood Drive and from Hollywood Boulevard south to U.S. Highway 98. Officials say narrowing the focus allows officers to spend more time in each neighborhood, speaking directly with residents and addressing concerns in person.

The main purpose of the sweep is to teach people, not to punish them. Code enforcement staff will be there to explain the regulations for keeping up your property, answer questions, and encourage people to take care of problems on their own. City officials emphasize that the goal of the strategy is to create awareness and encourage collaboration before any tickets or fines are given out.

The city says that throughout these sweeps, officers most commonly run into the same problems. These include cars that don’t work or are parked on public roads for more than 72 hours, grass that is too long and plants that aren’t taken care of, and trash or waste that builds up in yards. Other common concerns involve garbage cans remaining at the curb after collection day and construction or property improvements completed without the required permits.
