Fort Walton Beach residents invited to attend two July 8 meetings on legal processes and budget planning

Fort Walton Beach, Florida – The Fort Walton Beach City Council is getting ready for a busy day on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. There will be two sessions at City Hall. Residents are welcome to come to both sessions, which will be held in the Council Chambers at 107 Miracle Strip Parkway SW.

The first meeting, which is a Special City Council Meeting, will start at 3 p.m. There will be a quasi-judicial hearing about Section 2.05.02 of the city’s code during this session. The council will look over and think about two proposed processes for hearings, especially those that are somewhat like a court hearing.

The city law has rules for land use hearings, but this discussion will look at ideas for more general hearing processes that could set a standard for how things are done in the future. The City Attorney will provide the council a list of options to think about.

The special meeting will start with a call to order, the Pledge of Allegiance, approval of the agenda, and a chance for the public to speak. Next, there will be a part of the meeting that is like a court. By definition, these kinds of hearings must follow Florida law and have a clear and complete record of any decisions made. If you want to appeal a judgment from this session, you are in charge of making sure that a verbatim record is retained.

The City Council will convene a public workshop right after that, at 4 p.m., to talk about the budget for the next fiscal year (2025–26) and set priorities. Even though there are no formal attachments or materials specified ahead of time, the workshop is a great chance for council members to talk openly about significant projects and potential budget planning for the next year.

Both meetings are open to people with disabilities, but they need to let the organizers know ahead of time if they need any special arrangements. Like all formal city meetings, recordings will be available online on the City of Fort Walton Beach’s website.

People who live in the area are encouraged to go to these sessions to stay up to date and have a say in local decisions. The two meetings provide people a better idea of how the city is run, its laws, and its plans for the future, which are all important parts of Fort Walton Beach’s future.
