Five Niceville, Choctawhatchee, and Fort Walton Beach cadets recognized for academic and military promise

Okaloosa County, Florida – Five high school cadets from the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) have been honored for their outstanding leadership and dedication by being given prestigious scholarships, in what appears to be a proud moment for Okaloosa County. Presented by the Air and Space Forces Association (AFA) Eglin Chapter Education Foundation, the awards were delivered during a special event at the Air Force Armament Museum at Eglin Air Force Base on April 15.

Reflecting the strong attitude and commitment developed through the use of the county’s JROTC programs, the awardees are from Choctawhatchee, Fort Walton Beach, and Niceville High Schools. Each scholarship celebrates famous people and AFA supporters, so reflecting the high expectations and goals these young people are supposed to carry forward.

The Maggie Hsu Scholarship went to Niceville High School cadet Penelope Ashby in honor of her academic achievement and leadership skills. Joining her in celebration was Cadet Layth Atrakchi from Choctawhatchee High School, who got the Cliff Long, Sr. Leadership Scholarship for his exceptional leadership characteristics.

Fort Walton Beach High School’s Cadet Chriscelle Pardillo was honored with the Jerry Nabors Memorial Scholarship, a tribute to her service and commitment to the community. Another honoree from Niceville High School was Cadet Owen Clift, who was awarded the Jimmy Doolittle Scholarship in honor of the renowned air raid hero, so acknowledging Clift’s future military leadership potential.

Finishing the five of academics, Cadet Lincoln Dooley, also from Niceville High, was awarded the General Bill Kirk Scholarship. This award is bestowed upon cadets who exhibit exceptional leadership and a commitment to serving the nation, qualities that Dooley exemplifies.

“These cadets exemplify the values of leadership, service, and excellence that define our JROTC programs,” said Superintendent Marcus Chambers. “We are incredibly proud of their achievements and thankful to the Air and Space Forces Association Eglin Chapter for investing in their futures. These young men and women represent the very best of Okaloosa County, and we know they will go on to do great things.”

The scholarships are both a tribute to the cadets’ past accomplishments and an investment on their future promise. Aiming to equip these young leaders for successful careers either in the military or in civilian professions where they may continue to show outstanding management skills, they are meant to offer financial assistance for future studies.

The acknowledgment of these young people emphasizes the achievements of the JROTC initiatives in Okaloosa County, which seek to foster and grow the leaders of next generation.
