Destin, Florida – Are you a high school student living in Destin? Do you want to have a say in shaping the future of your city? Now’s your chance! Students are invited by the Destin Youth Council to apply for an unique opportunity to actively participate in the decision-making process influencing young people in the community. It’s a great approach to learn about local governance, get your opinion heard, and positively impact the city you live in.
Completely sponsored by the city, the Destin Youth Council aims to involve young people in city planning and administration from high school age. More than just a student group, this council provides young people with genuine opportunity to assume leadership positions and offer their ideas. From enhancing public areas to planning young activities, council members speak for the younger residents of Destin.
What does it mean to be part of the Destin Youth Council?
Being a member of the Destin Youth Council will allow you to advocate for problems that most concern your friends. This could be enhancing leisure facilities, planning entertaining events, or figuring out how Destin might be even more appealing to young people. Acting as an advisory board, young council members will also directly interact with the Destin City Council. You will understand how the city runs and, most importantly, help to shape policies that help young people.
It goes beyond just communication as well. Members of the Youth Council are empowered to allocate money for events connected to young people, therefore transforming the lives of their fellow students. Members will directly affect their city whether it is planning community service events, pushing for educational reforms, or just figuring out fresh approaches to make Destin a more young-friendly place.

Who can apply?
You qualify to apply if you live within the Destin city limits and are a high school student in grades 9 through 12! All candidates—regardless of race, color, gender, national origin, or disability—will be taken under consideration during the simple application procedure. The council welcomes any young person ready to join part since it is open to students from all backgrounds.
One should keep in mind a few key criteria. You have to be at least 2.25 GPA and promise to show up for at least one monthly meeting. Additionally, all members are expected to adhere to the council’s code of conduct, which prohibits smoking, drinking alcohol, and using illegal drugs. One year is the period of duty, hence you have plenty of time to help and have a long-lasting effect.
Why should you apply?
Participating in the Destin Youth Council is a great approach to get active in your neighborhood and grow into a competent leader. You will meet new individuals who are as passionate about making Destin a better place, learn about local government operations, and grasp how choices are made. Showing that you have initiative and care for your community will help you build your resume for college or future employment applications.
Beyond the obvious advantages, though, membership on the Youth Council offers you a rare opportunity to directly influence the operation of your community. Destin’s leaders want to hear from you—because no one understands the needs of the city’s youth better than the youth themselves.
