Destin to temporarily close Beach Drive for major culvert reconstruction project

Destin, Florida – Construction work tied to a city infrastructure project is set to begin later this month. This will mean that a major waterfront corridor will be closed for a brief period. City authorities said that Beach Drive would be closed between First Street and Bay Court starting Monday, December 15, 2025. This is so technicians can start rebuilding an old culvert that is under the road.
RBM Contracting Services will do the work under RFB 25-13-PW. The project will cost $548,000 and take around two months to finish. During this time, all traffic will be stopped on the part of Beach Drive that is being worked on, and no one will be able to get through.
As building begins, people who live and work nearby should be ready for changes in how they may get to neighborhood amenities. The fishing pier at Mattie Kelly will be closed throughout the whole project, and you won’t be able to use it while work is going on. City authorities stressed that these steps are needed to keep both the public and construction workers safe.
Drivers that need to get through the area will be directed to take a specific detour that goes down First Street and Benning Drive. While the road is closed, signs will be put up to help drivers find their way along the other route. Officials want people who drive to work to give themselves more time and to be on the lookout for construction work.

Replacing the culvert is a necessary infrastructure project that will help keep the roads stable and the water flowing properly. Officials claim that the road closure will cause some short-term problems, but in the long run, it will make the route safer and more reliable.
