Destin kicks off annual Christmas Holiday Outdoor Decorating Contest for festive community fun
Destin, Florida – The City of Destin invites residents, businesses, and organizations to highlight their festive ingenuity in the annual Christmas Holiday Outdoor Decorating Contest as the holiday season approaches. This beloved event brings the community together in a brilliant celebration of holiday happiness, illuminating the city and spreading seasonal joy.
Open to all residents of Destin, the contest challenges contestants to create winter wonderlands out of their homes while also trying for top awards in four thrilling categories. There is a category for everyone, whether your business wants to liven up the area, you are a homeowner with a talent for stringing lights, or you are an organization trying to appeal to holiday visitors.
Categories of competition:
- Best Decorated Home – Open to single-family homes, duplexes, mobile homes, and more, this category highlights the magic of residential holiday displays.
- Best Decorated Business – Perfect for restaurants, shops, schools, and offices, this category showcases commercial creativity.
- Best Decorated Organization – A spotlight for community spaces, including homeowner association entrances and golf courses.
- Best Overall Holiday – The ultimate prize for those who pull out all the stops, this category is open to all entrants aiming to create truly extraordinary displays.
Contest participation is entirely free; entrance nominations must be turned in by Monday, December 16, 2024 at 5 p.m. To enter, just email [email protected] or call (850) 654-5184. Since judges will not visit homes to see side yards or backyards, all decorations should be obvious from the street.
Judging will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on December 17 and 18 to make sure every exhibit is seen in their sparkling glory. Participants are given directions to have their lights and animations completely working throughout these periods. Decorations also have to stay updated through December 31st to maintain the festive mood.
The Mayor will announce and congratulate the winners during a special Council meeting in January 2025; images of the winning exhibits will be posted on the social media pages of the City of Destin.
