Community workshop launches Fort Walton Beach effort to examine traffic patterns in Northwest Neighborhood

Fort Walton Beach, Florida – City officials in Fort Walton Beach are inviting residents to take part in an upcoming community workshop designed to kick off a closer look at traffic conditions in the city’s Northwest Neighborhood.
The meeting will mark the beginning of a broader traffic study aimed at better understanding how vehicles move through the area and what challenges local drivers and residents may be experiencing.
The workshop will take place on Thursday, March 26, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Public Works & Utility Services offices, located at 7 Hollywood Boulevard NW. During the session, representatives from the consulting firm Kimley-Horn will present an overview of the study, outlining its purpose and the steps that will guide the process in the months ahead.

City leaders say the event is meant to open the conversation with the community. Residents who live in or frequently travel through the Northwest Neighborhood are encouraged to attend and share their observations. Officials are particularly interested in hearing firsthand accounts about traffic patterns, safety concerns, and everyday experiences on local streets. Those perspectives will help shape the study as it moves forward.
The project is expected to gather a range of data to help city planners evaluate current traffic conditions. Over the coming months, residents may notice monitoring equipment placed along various roadways throughout the neighborhood. These devices will be used to collect information about vehicle flow and movement, helping engineers build a clearer picture of how traffic behaves in the area.

While the study will rely on technical data, city officials emphasize that community feedback will play an equally important role. By combining on-the-ground insights from residents with traffic measurements and analysis, the city hopes to better understand the issues that may be affecting daily travel in the neighborhood.
For those who cannot attend the workshop in person, the city is still offering a way to participate. Residents may submit their comments, questions, or concerns by email to City Engineer Jim Cuilla at [email protected].
