Ceiling vent camera secretly filmed woman for weeks in disturbing voyeurism case, Fort Walton man arrested

Okaloosa County, Florida – After what started as a routine cleaning task, investigators from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Fort Walton Beach man, accusing him of video voyeurism and burglary. On April 11, a local resident was dusting the ceiling and wall vents in her house when she noticed something wrong. Looking inside one vent, she saw a little camera lens. Curiosity turned to alarm when she climbed onto a makeshift step and removed the device, immediately powering it off.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said that a regular forensic scan of the camera’s micro SD card uncovered unsettling proof: the device has been silently recording video of the woman inside her bedroom since February 17, 2025. The tapes recorded private, nude moments. Technicians of the Sheriff’s Office went through hours of video, recording several cases of illegal monitoring. Every clip revealed the suspect in the act of adjusting and fine-tuning the camera’s position as well as the victim.
By examining the video frames more closely, investigators were able to identify the man behind the lens. Several recordings showed his face clearly, and a unique tattoo on his left forearm which offered an important hint. Using this data, officers fast located the suspect to a Denton Boulevard home. Relying on this proof, they obtained an arrest warrant and executed the arrest without difficulties.
Footage from a Ring doorbell camera the victim had put in at her front door further supported the case. The suspect—identified as 30-year-old Jason Lee Carpenter—approached the house on April 25. The video shows him pausing, spotting the doorbell camera, and then retreating. That hesitation appeared to confirm his awareness of being watched, even as he continued his clandestine activities elsewhere.

Carpenter now has burglary and video voyeurism felony charges. Florida law treats breaches of privacy seriously, particularly when they involve concealed recording equipment, so if found guilty he might spend considerable time in jail. Though the sheriff’s office has not reported additional victims, authorities are encouraging anyone with information or concerns to come forward.
The incident emphasizes the need of home vigilance and the significance of community collaboration in crime resolution.
