Short resurfacing project could slow traffic between U.S. 98 and Hollywood Boulevard

Fort Walton Beach, Florida – A short but noticeable road project is coming to one of Fort Walton Beach’s key north-south routes. Drivers using Wright Parkway should prepare for construction activity, traffic impacts and possible delays during the final week of July.

The disruption is expected to last only one or two days, but the work will affect the full stretch of Wright Parkway between U.S. Highway 98 and Hollywood Boulevard. Resurfacing is scheduled to begin during the week of Monday, July 27, 2026.

A contractor working on behalf of the City of Fort Walton Beach will complete the roadway improvements. Because paving operations depend on suitable conditions, the exact timing may change if weather interferes with the planned schedule.

Residents, business owners and motorists are being asked to help keep the work area clear. All vehicles and other obstructions should be removed from the public right-of-way and the immediate construction zone between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. while the project is underway, unless the city provides different instructions.

Traffic will remain affected as crews and equipment move through the corridor. Drivers traveling on Wright Parkway should reduce their speed, remain alert and follow signs, flaggers or other traffic directions within the construction zone.

The resurfacing work is expected to improve the driving surface along the section connecting U.S. 98 with Hollywood Boulevard. Although the project is relatively brief, paving can require temporary restrictions as crews prepare the roadway, place new material and safely move equipment through the area.

Motorists who regularly use Wright Parkway may want to allow additional travel time or choose another route while work is active. Conditions could change throughout the day depending on where crews are operating.

The City of Fort Walton Beach thanked the public for its patience and apologized for any inconvenience caused by the project. City officials emphasized that cooperation from drivers and nearby property owners will help crews complete the resurfacing safely and efficiently.
