Major roadwork on Destin’s Airport Road begins November 3 with four-day milling phase
Destin, Florida – On Monday, November 3, 2025, crews will start extensive road construction on Airport Road in Destin. The contractor, H&T, will begin the milling phase, which is when they take off the top layer of old asphalt to get the surface ready for new pavement. City officials think this first step will take about four days to finish, although that could change depending on the weather and how quickly things are moving forward.
Paving work will start on Monday, November 10, when the milling is done. New asphalt will be put down on the road’s surface during this phase. Temporary striping will be put down soon after to keep traffic moving smoothly until the permanent markings are put down.
City workers said that permanent thermoplastic striping and reflective pavement markers will be put in about two weeks after the paving is finished. This delay gives the new asphalt time to cure properly, which makes sure that the final striping sticks well and lasts a long time.
The City of Destin says that the project will not change the High Friction Surface Treatment that is already in place along the curve of Airport Road. That part will stay the same over the whole procedure, making sure that cars can safely pass through the area.

Drivers are asked to be careful while the construction is taking place. There will be construction personnel and heavy machinery working along the road for the whole period. During work hours, drivers should expect lane changes and small delays.
