Fort Walton Beach announces free curbside tire pickup in September to boost community cleanup

Fort Walton Beach, Florida – As part of its continued effort to make neighborhoods cleaner and more appealing, the City of Fort Walton Beach is giving residents a simple way to get rid of old tires. On Friday, September 12, 2025, there will be a Free Tire Collection Day. This will provide those who live in the city the chance to get rid of old tires straight off their own curbs.

The city’s “Cleanest City on the Emerald Coast” program is putting together this special one-day service. The goal of the program is to make the community cleaner by reducing litter, preventing unlawful dumping, and encouraging people to keep their neighborhoods clean. The city expects that curbside pickup will make it easier for homeowners to get rid of their tires and cut down on trips to the Okaloosa County Transfer Station.

Residents who want to take part must call the Solid Waste Division at (850) 833-9655 between Monday, September 8, and Thursday, September 11, to set up a pickup. Participants must put their tires at the curb by 7 p.m. on September 11, the day they sign up.

To make sure everything goes properly, the city has set up clear rules. The service is only for properties in Fort Walton Beach, and it won’t take commercial tires like those for tractor-trailers, farms, or heavy gear. There is no restriction on how many tires a family can put out, but officials are asking people to keep them away from things like mailboxes, fire hydrants, and utility boxes.

City leaders say this program not only makes neighborhoods look better, but it also prevents people from throwing things away in ways that could hurt the environment and make people feel unsafe. Old tires that are left on empty lots or forested areas can attract pests and start fires, so it’s very important to get rid of them the right way.

The Free Tire Collection Day is just one facet of Fort Walton Beach’s larger plan to make life better for both residents and visitors. Residents may help the city reach its goal of being the cleanest community on the Emerald Coast by taking part.

Residents can get more information by going to fwb.org or contacting the Solid Waste Division directly.
