DeSantis’ Defense Reinvestment Grants target infrastructure and technology near military bases

Okaloosa County, Florida – With Governor Ron DeSantis announcing an infusion of over $2.1 million through the Defense Reinvestment Grant Program, Florida’s dedication to its military communities is more robust than ever. This project fits within a larger endeavor to strengthen military-supporting infrastructure and boost local businesses near Florida’s military sites.

Governor DeSantis emphasized that these funds are a continuation of his dedication to making Florida the most military-friendly state in the nation.

“Florida is committed to investing in our military’s capacity and in military communities,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “These funds continue my mission of making Florida the most military-friendly and veteran-friendly state in the nation.”

The funding given will support a range of initiatives all over the state, each customized to satisfy particular local needs and simultaneously support more general goals. The One Okaloosa Economic Development Council is among the recipients; it got $122,500 to assist nearby military stations and missions. Through projects concentrated on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) sectors and employment creation, this investment will also assist diversify the economy.

Using their $90,530 funding, the Bay Defense Alliance is poised to leverage the volunteer pool in the Panhandle, so improving the development of defense missions and investigating new prospects in next-generation defense technology. Likewise, the Orlando Economic Partnership will use their $250,000 grant to support military technology innovation and include local businesses on advanced simulation initiatives.

The economic activities of the Space Coast are also benefiting from $106,500 set aside for the construction of a Wastewater Treatment Plant at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. This project marks a vital first towards modernizing infrastructure to meet the expanding operational requirements of the station.

Indicating a major investment in cybersecurity and technical warfare capabilities, the Pensacola-Escambia Promotion and Development Commission has been awarded $250,000 further west to create state-of-the-art facilities for cyber operations near Corry Station.

Among other noteworthy projects are a $250,000 attempt in Santa Rosa County to fund a master plan allowing a strategic land swap with the Navy and a $220,000 campaign in Bay County to create an Area Development Plan for lands near Naval Support Activity Panama City.

Funds were given to the Tampa Bay Defense Alliance and Miami-Dade Beacon Council so they could keep creating regional defense plans and assist initiatives for economic diversification close to military stations. These initiatives show a statewide commitment to improve Florida’s military preparedness and economic stability.

“Under the leadership of Governor DeSantis, Florida is continuing to support critical projects that further strengthen military readiness,” said Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly. “These awards will have impacts across the state, building on past investments and further cementing the bond between our defense communities and military installations.”
