City of Destin enhances beach safety measures with unanimous approval of rescue tube installations

Destin, Florida – Joining a rising number of Panhandle towns implementing this life-saving action, the City of Destin has announced plans to improve beach safety by putting rescue tubes at its beach access points in what appears to be a major safety project. Under the direction of the Rotary Club of Destin and the Rescue Tube Foundation, the project seeks to equip first responders and beachgoers fast-response gear to help swimmers in distress.

Emphasizing the city’s dedication to safety for both residents and guests, Destin City Council voted unanimously in favor of this idea in their most recent meeting. With an eye toward having the tubes ready for usage by the next spring break, the installation project will cover 12 of the 13 designated beach access spots throughout the city.

Along with instructive signs, the buoyant flotation devices—the rescue tubes—will be placed on easily reachable poles. Each unit will cost roughly $235 and these tubes are made for longevity—up to three years. This project reflects effective installations in surrounding areas including Navarre, Pensacola Beach, and Perdido Key where the presence of these tubes has improved beach safety precautions.

One of the main collaborators on this initiative, the Rescue Tube Foundation is well-known for its initiatives to lower drowning deaths. Aiming to equip public recreational waterways with required safety gear to safeguard both rescuers and swimmers, the company has helped over 600 rescue tube stations to be installed throughout the United States and Canada.

The City of Destin’s proactive approach is a component of a more general plan to enhance safety procedures at nearby beaches, which draw both visitors and locals. The city wants to significantly reduce the risks connected to swimming and improve the whole beach experience by equipping certain well-known areas with rescue tubes, therefore assuring that relief is never too far away in case of emergency.
