After a long rebuild Fort Walton Beach Landing is stepping back into the spotlight, official reopening set for April 24
Fort Walton Beach, Florida – After years behind construction fencing and careful planning, one of Fort Walton Beach’s most recognizable public spaces is ready to welcome people back to the water.
The Fort Walton Beach Landing is scheduled to reopen on Friday, April 24, 2026, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony set for 5 p.m., marking the completion of a multi-year renovation project that has steadily reshaped the waterfront park into a larger, more modern gathering place.
City officials said the reopening will coincide with the opening day of the 2026 Musical Echoes Flute Festival, whose organizers agreed to make room for the ceremony as the first major public moment in the renewed space.

The work unfolded over three phases and was carried out by Fort Walton Beach-based GLC Contracting. What visitors will see now is more than a cosmetic refresh.
The park has been rebuilt with a heavily reinforced seawall stretching along 700 feet of waterfront, a new concrete boardwalk with railings beside Santa Rosa Sound, and a circular covered performance stage designed to anchor future events. The improved layout also includes tiered amphitheater seating, terraced areas on both sides of the park overlooking the water, and a new fishing pier at the west end.
On the eastern edge, the redesign adds a “pocket beach” with a launch area for kayaks and paddleboards, giving the site a more active connection to the shoreline. There is also more lighting throughout the park, added electrical access for vendors, new sidewalks and stairways leading to the waterfront, and a living shoreline built with an oyster shell and seagrass barrier to help slow erosion. Parking was expanded as well, with 34 additional spaces on the east side and dedicated golf cart parking.
The broad list of improvements reflects the scale of the investment behind the project. Funding came from the Community Redevelopment Agency, Okaloosa County’s Tourist Development Tax, the half-cent surtax for infrastructure improvements, and a Natural Resource Damage Assessment grant.

With the renovation now complete, the Landing is poised to step immediately into a busy season. Upcoming events include the Concerts at The Landing series running Friday nights from May 8 through June 5, the 2026 Craftathon Beer Festival on May 3, the Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival on May 15 and 16, and the city’s Fourth of July celebration featuring live music and fireworks on Saturday, July 4.
City leaders also offered thanks to everyone who helped bring the long project to the finish line, and to residents who waited patiently while the work moved forward on this beloved waterfront park.
