Okaloosa County School District and Choctawhatchee High School to host public reveal of cultural school landmark

Fort Walton Beach, Florida – The Okaloosa County School District and Choctawhatchee High School are preparing to welcome community members and media representatives for a special event honoring a cherished school tradition. On Friday, October 10, 2025, the official public unveiling of the Choctaw Totem Pole will take place as part of Choctawhatchee High School’s Homecoming 2025 festivities.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. at Choctawhatchee High School, located at 110 Racetrack Rd NW in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Attendees will witness the unveiling of the impressive 11-foot, 250-pound polyresin totem pole, which serves as a powerful visual tribute to the school’s long and proud legacy.

The totem pole was first revealed privately in June, when it was installed on campus to mark over 70 years of Choctawhatchee school spirit and heritage. Its creation and placement reflect a deep respect for the enduring traditions that have shaped the identity of Choctaw students and alumni for generations.

The totem pole is expected to become a key landmark for the school, offering a tangible connection between past and present students and fostering a deeper sense of unity within the school community.
