Residents invited to discuss flood risks at Okaloosa County’s Vulnerability Assessment Project meeting on February 10

Okaloosa County, Florida – Residents of Okaloosa County are invited to engage in an important discussion on flood prevention and environmental protection during the second public meeting of the Vulnerability Assessment Project. The event will take place in the Training Room of the Okaloosa County Administrative Building at 1250 Eglin Parkway in Shalimar on Monday, February 10th, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Open to the public, this public event focuses on the results of the countywide vulnerability assessment carried out by Jacobs Engineering in association with county authorities. The initiative seeks to pinpoint and lessen the potential impacts of flooding and other risks to the environment in the unincorporated parts of the county.

The Chairman of the Okaloosa County Board Paul Mixon underlined the need of local environmental risk awareness depending on community involvement.

“I encourage everyone to learn more about where they live and the potential flood risks they may encounter,” Mixon said. “These public meetings give our residents the chance to not only learn about their community but to engage in worthy conversations that can lead to a safer County.”

Conference attendees will get the chance to go over the methodology and initial results of the vulnerability assessment—which includes an exposure and sensitivity analysis. Future flood mitigating plans and information on how possible flood events can affect the community depend on this study.

A question-and-answer session will also be included of the conference so residents can express challenges, offer comments, and personally interact with Jacobs Engineering officials and county staff. This interaction is part of the county’s effort to foster a collaborative approach to disaster preparedness and environmental management.

The meeting will be live on YouTube at the Okaloosa County official channel for those unable to make it in person, therefore offering an easily accessible forum for all interested parties to take part.

Okaloosa County values the insights and suggestions from all community members. The input from the community is vital in helping Okaloosa County refine the strategies and ensure that the flood mitigation efforts are as effective as possible.
