Okaloosa County oversight committee to review school sales surtax spending in March
Okaloosa County, Florida – On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, the Okaloosa County School Board’s Sales Surtax Citizens’ Oversight Committee will meet to continue investigating how the school district is using the sales surtax revenue that voters approved.
The meeting will start at 4:00 p.m. and will be held in the Training Room at 202A Highway 85 North in Niceville, at the School District Central Administrative Complex.
The primary objective of the committee is to look over reports related to the School District’s Half-Cent Capital Outlay Sales Surtax Program. During the meeting, members should get updates and paperwork showing how the money made from the surtax has been spent and where it has gone.
These assessments are meant to make sure that the money is spent on the things that voters agreed to and that the district’s priorities for capital upgrades are being met.

The Sales Surtax Citizens’ Oversight Committee is an independent group that makes sure the program is open and accountable. The committee helps the public understand how surtax funds help with school facilities and long-term infrastructure needs by looking at reports about money and projects.
The meeting gives committee members a chance to talk about what they found, ask questions about the reports that were shown, and think about what they should do next in their roles as supervisors.

People can go to these meetings to make sure that money for education is handled in a way that is transparent and open to discussion.
People who need special help because of a disability or physical impairment should make plans ahead of time.
