Neighborhood clean-up returns as Fort Walton Beach offers curbside pickup of large household items

Fort Walton Beach, Florida – The City of Fort Walton Beach is getting ready for its neighborhood clean-up program, which happens twice a year. It’s set to take place on Monday, August 4, 2025. The month-long campaign is meant to assist people get rid of big home goods that don’t fit in conventional trash containers without charging them additional fees.
As part of this community-wide clean-up, sanitation workers will pick up big things like furniture, refrigerators, and beds. Only people who live in Fort Walton Beach can use the service, and it is set up to work with each household’s regular yard trash pickup day.
Residents who want to take part should put qualifying items by the curb, making sure they don’t block mailboxes, fire hydrants, or above-ground utility boxes. The city emphasizes that putting things in the right spot makes collection easier and safer for both staff and neighbors.
However, not everything can be picked up. You can’t bring in things like concrete, glass, bricks, construction or demolition debris, tires, or dangerous materials. Okaloosa County has a special Household Hazardous Waste drop-off location on Ready Avenue for anyone who want to get rid of these kinds of materials securely. County residents can use the program for free.
City authorities want people to take advantage of this opportunity to clean up their houses and help keep their neighborhoods clean.
