ICYMI – CreativeCon 2018

Panama City’s CreativeCon—held Sept. 22 and 23—is a niche convention that amplifies the sense of community within geek-culture.

They support locals first—artists, comic book creators, authors and more from our own backyard. This annual event creates a bridge to the arts, offering a platform for expression and visibility.

CreativeCon has grown from the ground up. It began in a library with a handful of artists showcasing their projects and has steadily grown to the current location at the Marina Civic Center.

The event is dotted with normal Con experiences—costume contests, fun activities, panels, and vendors selling unusual memorabilia.

Yet one of the coolest aspects is the persuasive feeling of community. When Mom and I arrived at the event on Saturday, we spotted a friend before we even made it out of the parking lot or hit the doors of the convention. There were hugs and catch-up chatter, and that feeling continued throughout the day, where each rounded corner could lead to a friendly face.

If you’ve never been to CreativeCon or don’t know many people in the area, that’s okay. Chances are you’ll leave the event with a few new friends and feeling a little less alone in the world.

Whether you enjoying cosplay or want to meet other people who are just into the same nerdy, geeky stuff that you’re into, CreativeCon is a fantastic experience.
