Fishing Report – Offshore

By Chris Schofield, Captain of the No Alibi

It’s kind of quiet out on the Gulf for fishing right now. There seems to be a lot of painting and sanding going on down on the docks while the fleet gets ready for a big spring season. If you’re thinking of going out, now is the time to make reservations. The Ships Chandler had a Sheepshead Tournament last weekend, and Zach Wolf caught the biggest sheepshead—nine pounds!

Triggerfish season opened March 1st, and now we can keep ‘em and they are biting. Mingo snapper can be found out on the ledges, and we’ve seen some red grouper come into the docks. They seem to be hitting on live pinfish or whatever live bait you can catch before heading out. Boston mackerel seem to be biting on cut squid.

March is here and the water will start to warm up and we’re looking to start catching some king mackerel. Towards the end of the month, we are looking forward to cobia.

Spread the love
