Somehow we managed to put out another year’s worth of Beachcombers, and I’m forever indebted to the people who put it all together. And the people who read it and say nice things to me.
We had a great 2019, the highlight for me being the fact that we got our late April issue out while I was hospitalized, recovering from a heart attack. Can’t wait to see what 2020 brings!
We continued to search high and low for the best in music, art, events, eating, drinking, etc. In 2020, we pledge to bring you even more useful—and fun—information, especially since there’s a whole extra day in February.
The 2019 Beachcomber Music Awards—held on Okaloosa Island in August—was our 11th event and one of the most fun. We sponsored some other great to-dos this year—notably the Market Shops Bloody Festival and the Okaloosa RevFest, both held on the same day in November!—and will offer some more community support with the Destin Boat Parade Dec. 15.
We bid a tearful goodbye to some of the great Emerald Coast musicians—Buddy Brumit, Hans McMinamin, Ronnie Dents and Franko “Washboard” Jackson. I hope they’re jamming their asses off in heaven.
I cannot sing enough praises to the great men and women that make this publication possible, mainly because I don’t think anyone out there wants to hear me sing. Anyway, thanks to Tosha Manke, Bruce Collier, Nikki Hedrick, Samantha Lambert, Paula Hilton, Charles Morgan, Clay Jones, Carl Hiaasen and all of the talented artists and photographers whose work has appeared on our cover.
And our advertisers. Couldn’t do it without you and wouldn’t want to try.
I’m excited about a couple of new features in this issue, Jane Cooks for You by Jane Morgan and our health and fitness column from Carl “Redbeard” Simpson. Look for many more fresh offerings in 2020…we plan to grow this baby ‘til Beachcomber becomes as unwieldy as a set of old encyclopedias.
Kids, ask your parents. Parents, ask your grandparents…
Merry Christmas, and see you next year.
Love, Editor Manson
