Let’s just get this out of the way—Lita Ford is 60. She’s been performing music on the public stage since she was 16 with the all-girl band The Runaways. In the ‘80s, she ruled rock radio and shaped the beginnings of MTV as a video vixen. She’s released eight solo albums, the most recent being 2013’s The Bitch Is Back…Live.
She’s never been some neatly packaged pop star, and that theme has carried over into her current tour. From night to night, a rough setlist seems agreed upon by the band but Lita always seems up to mixing it up. It isn’t about encores and ego stroking…only the music that she seems to genuinely enjoy playing.
Her current band includes bassist Marty O’Brien, drummer Bobby Rock, and guitarist Patrick Kennison. Rock wins the award for one of the most intense drum solos I’ve seen live, while Kennison’s full-bodied backing vocals blended perfectly with Lita’s signature tone.
And Lita sounds phenomenal. She still can keep a packed house tuned in to her next guitar lick and put on a great night of music that included The Runaways’ “Cherry Bomb,” “Close My Eyes Forever,” and, of course, “Kiss Me Deadly.”
