The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
The Amazon Prime lineup might be some of the most underrated programming offered by a streaming service. Case in point—The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, a new original series from the Palladino team of Gilmore Girls fame. Set in 1958 New York, this award-winning series is a visual charmer with retro sets and vintage wardrobe. And it shines with stars like Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards) and Tony Shaulhoub (Monk). The show revolves around Midge, who leads an idyllic life complete with a perfect marriage, beautiful home and two children—one boy and one girl, of course. Then, out of the blue, her perfect world comes crashing down in a most imperfect fashion. A newly single mother, Midge suddenly finds herself in immediate need of a job, so she leaves behind the perfect world of mid-century housewifery and right before our eyes morphs into a potty-mouthed, wisecracking standup comedian. Sound a little crazy? It is. And it’s also very entertaining.
