Bartender of the Issue – Darrin Veasey

Floyd’s Shrimp House, Okaloosa Island

 

Darrin was born in Atlanta, and grew up in Douglasville, Georgia. He moved here in 2010 to look for new opportunities. He had attended Jacksonville State in Alabama for two and a half years, majoring in hospitality services.

 

Darrin started out waiting tables at Chili’s in Destin and started learning bartending. He moved over to Bubba Gump’s when it opened and bartended there part time. It was when he moved to Regatta Bay, where he bartended for two years, that he really learned the trade.

 

Next, he found himself playing DJ at the Swamp on Okaloosa Island. Two years ago, he moved to Floyd’s and started bartending again. “I’m kind of a job gypsy,” he acknowledges. He pours six nights a week at Floyd’s and really enjoys working with the team there.

 

Darrin’s specialty at Floyd’s is the Floyd’s Hurricane, which he floats with grenadine. “It gives it a sunset appearance,” Darrin says.

 

In his spare time, Darrin DJs for special events, plays golf, and loves spending time with his girlfriend Erica on the water as much as possible, especially Crab Island.
