Andre Dubus III at NWF State College April 17

Andre Dubus III is the 2017 Guest Author appearing as part of the NWF Reads program at Northwest Florida State College. He will present a reading of his work Monday, April 17, at 7 p.m. in the Sprint Theater of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on the Niceville Campus.

Dubus is the author of six books, including The Cage Keeper and Other Stories, Bluesman, and the New York Times bestsellers House of Sand and Fog, The Garden of Last Days (soon to be a major motion picture) and his memoir, Townie.

His work has been included in The Best American Essays of 1994 and The Best Spiritual Writing of 1999. Dubus’ House of Sand and Fog was a finalist for the National Book Award, a number-one New York Times bestseller, and the source material for the Academy Award-nominated film starring Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly.

Dirty Love was published in the fall of 2013 and has been listed as a New York Times Notable Book and Editors’ Choice, a Washington Post Notable Fiction, and a Kirkus Starred Best Book of 2013.

The event is free of charge with no ticket required. Immediately preceding the reading by Dubus, the college’s literary journal Blackwater Review will be unveiled with a reception and selected student readings in the adjoining McIlroy Gallery from 6 to 6:45 p.m.

In addition, on Friday, April 14, other student poets and writers published in this year’s Blackwater Review will read and perform their pieces at a casual event at 6 p.m. in the McIlroy Gallery. For more information contact NWF Reads director Dr. Beverly Holmes at 850-729-6032 or email
