All About Us – What We’re Looking Forward to 2017

Beachcomber Contributing Editor

Despite the dire predictions and/or wild optimism of my friends both in person and on social media, I intend to keep my own hopes alive in the way I have since I became a husband and a father.

There are people in this world for whom I have actual responsibility, there are people I love, and there are people I try hard to wish well. As long as I keep those priorities straight, everything else should fall into place—in 2017, and all the years to follow.

On a less lofty note, I expect my daughter Grace to move closer to being renamed the Tall Diner.

Beachcomberland’s Reigning PR Queen

I am looking forward to sharing yet another year of amazing memories with my precious five grandchildren—under the age of nine, including 20-month-old twins—who live in Atlanta but come with my son and daughter-in-law to “Gramma Kay’s at the Beach” throughout the year.

As well, I will enjoy doing PR work and PRtography for my clients and working with a number of the wonderful nonprofit organizations that do so much in our community for so many. Here’s to peace, harmony and good health in 2017.

New opportunities and experiences. Some big, scary things are bubbling, and hopefully 2017 will be the year that they can exist in the real world.

Assistant Director, Mattie Kelly Arts Center, Northwest Florida State College

Having been involved with the grand opening of the Arts Center in 1997 and promoting the venue’s cultural arts programs for more than a decade, I look forward to the 20th anniversary of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on January 21.

The center is such a great resource the college offers our community, and I’m so proud to be a part of it.

Lead Adoption Coordinator, Alaqua Animal Refuge

In 2017, I am most looking forward to moving to our new property in Bruce. Also, giving animals a second chance by helping them find the best possible adopters.

Nonie’s Ark Animal Encounters

My 20th anniversary for Nonie’s Ark.

The birth of our fourth child in May and the launch of the 2017 Food and Wine Guide for South Walton.

Beachcomber Music Award Winner (Among Other Things)

What I’m looking forward to most in 2017 is the unknown. I’m excited about all of the new adventures and opportunities that are sure to present themselves in the most unlikely of ways.

Destin City Council

Celebrating my second wedding anniversary in January and my daughter’s first birthday in October, and all the moments shared with them in between. Taking my beagles on more walks. Reading good books. Catching big Cobia in the spring. Passing an effective tree ordinance at City Hall to prohibit the clear cutting of lots around town. I’m a simple man.

Bluesman Extraordinaire

Take your pick. In 2017, I’m looking forward to (1) piano lessons, (2) a return to my amateur boxing career, (3) going back to Cali, (4) gender reassignment surgery to become Bubba McQueen Blues Diva, (5) Dec. 31, 2017.

Renaissance Man

I’m looking forward to the privilege of looking forward to 2018.

I can’t wait to see what they’re going to rename the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport next year. Also looking forward to more mattress stores and AJ’s locations opening up in 2017.

Spread the love
