The Destin Charity Wine Auction (DCWAF), Walton County’s premier charity fundraising organization, accepted the National Award of Merit and the first-ever local Hometown Hero Award from the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast (BGCEC) at the annual Steak and Stake Dinner.
The National Award of Merit is the highest level of recognition presented by the Boys and Girls Clubs of America to those who provide outstanding support to local chapters.
“We are very pleased to receive this award and, most importantly, to partner with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast and 14 other local charities to help children in need,” says Bob Gelardi, DCWAF board member and charity relations chair.
The Hometown Hero Award recognizes community partners, businesses, organizations and individuals that have demonstrated outstanding support of the BGCEC and its members. In selecting its inaugural recipient, BGCEC reviewed the top 25 donors of 2015-16 to determine which organization had the most overall impact on youth in Northwest Florida.
“We are very grateful to have the support of the Destin Charity Wine Auction, which has donated more than $350,000 to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast since 2013, and more than $13 million to local youth organizations along the Emerald Coast since 2005,” says BGCEC CEO Shervin Rassa. “With such a profound impact on our local youth, it is easy to see how DCWAF was selected.”
