Q: Oh, Why Can’t Every Day Be Like Christmas?

By None
A: ‘Cos We’d All Be Broke, That’s Why

Our good friend Santa Claus is hard at work on his annual Naughty and Nice lists, and we thought we’d give him a few suggestions… more coverage of the third 30A Songwriters Festival, New Year’s activities, and the aforementioned Beachcomber Music Awards ballot.

Naughty: Bullies, career politicians, CEOs that own more than one yacht, rich people that don’t pay taxes, Coldplay.

Nice: The Muppets, people who are generous and compassionate all year long, musicians and artists, poor people that don’t pay taxes, Dick Delicious and the Tasty Testicles.

That’s a real band, by the way, and you should check them out at, along with all the great talent we have here on the Emerald Coast. And speaking of music, the official ballot for the Fourth Annual Beachcomber Music Awards will appear in the Dec. 22-Jan. 18 issue. The event will be held (somewhere) Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, and I’d like to thank all the musicians, writers, venues, and do-gooders that participated in the nomination process. Look for lots of new categories this/next year.

New to my wish list this year—a Fender Telecaster Slimline guitar, brought to my attention by Doug “Dr. D” Dickerson (Hubba Hubba, Something Fishy) at Leitz Music in Fort Walton Beach. I’d already submitted my official wish list to friends and family, but if you kids in Beachcomberland want to form a pool…

Merry Christmas, everyone!

The photo of the Blue Star Marker in last issue’s Beachcomber Neighborhood incorrectly credited David Underwood as the restorer. It was actually Steve Underwood, who has been a sign painter in Santa Rosa Beach since 1984. Steve, please accept our apology for the error.

Bella Beach Jewels, Rae Schilder, Anita Powell, Michele Stadnik, Angie Barker, Maureen Daly, Jim Tapley, Jennifer Ellison, Jody Felder, Bobby Schaefer, Jeri Johnson, Jenny Coleman, Carl Coleman, Natalie Kinmonth, Michelle Elliott, Joe Kubinsky, Chris and April Brookhart, Bonnie Rich, Melissa Salter, Risa Adams, January Adams, Gayle Lee and Power Hours Destin are just some of the great people who “like” the new Beachcomber page on Facebook.

If you’re a friend of the old Beachcomber Destin page, please make the switch and drink in up-to-the-minute info, giveaways, videos and much more! We may even put your name in the paper to fill up space.

As a kid, I used to ask Santa for world peace every year until he suggested a bridge from California to Hawaii would be more plausible (and affordable).

We’re hard at work on the new, improved Beachcomber Web site. Be patient and prepare to be dazzled.

Our next issue is out for a month, so get all your relevant event info, photos, stories, jokes, poetry, cartoons and praiseladen letters to us by noon, Friday, Dec.

16. This particular issue will include our choices for the Best of 2011, as well as

Join us Sunday, Dec. 11 at The Shed BBQ & Blues Joint for Jam Night with Blue Lew’s Groove and anyone else who might turn up. The fun starts at 5, we’ve been at it for months now, and Blue Lew, Nora, Jim, Shack, Scott, etc. show no signs of letting up. Much love to Nora for her online recaps at www., and all the musicians and fans that make each week’s Jam better than the last. Check out the videos at beachcomberdestin, too!

RIGHT: Awesome Christmas card posted on Facebook by the Jam master himself, Blue Lew (the only person we know with Blue in their name that isn’t a porn star). Pictured are Destiny Reggae, Homemadesoul, Blue Lew, Muddbone Rockin’ Blues Band, Nora Wixted- Hogue, Ike Bartley, Teddy Bear, Jim Remsburg, Shack Attack, Call the Law, Aaron Overton, Joey Pabst, Scott Noble, Edward Jones, Beachcomber Editor Chris Manson, Tim Ernest, Season Ammons, Chris “How ‘Bout It” Clarke and Fly Dents.
