Submitted by Gina Marini:

Spring is in the air at the Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida, with the 42nd Saturday in the Park Festival and Heritage 5K set for Saturday, April 28, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This FREE community event serves to showcase Northwest Florida heritage with complimentary museum admission, historic reenactments and traditional craft demonstrations. Guests will also enjoy live entertainment, craft and food vendors, a Kid Zone, a flower show, and a car show and shine.

The day’s festivities kicks off at 8 a.m. with the start of the Heritage 5K Run-Walk and Kids One-Mile Fun Run, following a traditional opening ceremony.

Take a free self-guided tour of the museum and view historic exhibits about early industries such as fishing, turpentine and transportation. The kids will love the Discovery Room with hands-on exhibits, while the adults will delight in “Paradise Gardens," an outdoor exhibit created and managed by the Valparaiso Garden Club.  Be sure to check-out the Garden Club’s “Sounds of Music in the Garden” Flower Show at Trinity Presbyterian Church hall near Perrine Park.

Enjoy a variety of entertainment, including choirs and bands, as well as traditional craft demonstrations including blacksmithing, spinners, bobbin’ lace, tatting, basket and loom weaving, chair caning, and more. Plus, guests can view the Mustang & Antique Car Show & Shine all day.

The Kid Zone includes old-fashioned games and toys, SpaceWalk slide, arts and crafts, face painting and more. Signup for contests begins at noon - watermelon eating, bubble gum blowing and a sack race. The contests begin at 1:45 p.m.

Make history and join the fun this Saturday. There will be plenty of handicap parking and a golf cart shuttle from Lincoln Park and surrounding streets. Vendor spaces are still available for arts and crafts, nonprofits, and government agencies/clubs. Call 850-678-2615, visit www.heritage-museum.org, or email: info@heritage-museum.org.
