Northwest Florida State College is excited to announce a tour of Spain called Walking in the Footsteps of Great Artists: An Artistic Tour of Spain. Dr. David Simmons, Professor of Humanities and Film Studies at NWFSC and occasional Beachcomber contributor, will lead the tour.
Dr. Simmons has previously led artistic tours of Italy, France, Germany/Austria/Czech Republic, and Scotland/Ireland.
The tour of Spain will be May 1-13, 2020 and will visit such sites as Malaga, Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada, Toledo, Madrid, El Escorial, Zaragoza, Montserrat, and Barcelona.
Participants will walk in the footsteps of great artists such as Picasso, El Greco, Goya, Salvador Dali, Gaudi and many others, standing before some of their greatest masterpieces.
The tour will also explore architectural wonders like the Royal Palace (Alcazar) in Seville, El Escorial, and Barcelona Cathedral.
Finally, the tour will visit filming locations featured in Game of Thrones, Lawrence of Arabia, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Mission: Impossible 2, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and others.
The tour is open to anyone who wants to join—students, faculty, and NWFSC staff, as well as members of the outside community, who can join the tour from anywhere in the world. Current NWFSC students have an opportunity to earn Humanities credits.
For more information on the tour, the public is invited to attend a Tour Information Meeting Thursday, Oct. 10, at 6 PM in the film classroom (Building 110, Room 328, in the Arts Wing of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville). They can also email Dr. Simmons at email@example.com.
