Last month, the community gathered for a celebration of life fundraiser for Joel Iral, a longtime employee of both Ruth’s Chris Steak House and Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q in Destin who was killed in a vehicle-involved scooter accident. The event, held in Ruth’s Chris’ courtyard, raised over $28,000 through donations, a raffle, and silent and live auctions. Donations can still be made online at www.GoFundMe.com/JoelIral or dropped off at Ruth’s Chris.

Kat Phillips, one of five recently honored Daisy Award winners (for providing outstanding nursing care) from Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. Ms. Phillips works in the Medical Surgery unit, and one patient beamed, “She always made it a point to discuss what was going on. She was very outgoing and compassionate, and whenever I needed something, she always responded fast. She is an asset to FWBMC.” The other honorees were Vanessa Romero-Cano and Anastasiya Powell (CVICU), Kathy Nellis (Behavioral Services), and Barb McDaniel (Med Surg).
