Godforsaken Grapes – A Slightly Tipsy Journey Through the World of Strange, Obscure, and Underappreciated Wine

Abrams Press

The title of this book comes from an article by “Emperor of Wine” writer Robert Parker, expressing his contempt for unknown (and uninteresting) grapes, and the (mostly young) poseurs who champion them solely for their obscurity. Dining and spirits writer Wilson decided to look into the fuss, traveling to France, Germany, Eastern Europe and the USA. What he found was a kind of wine underground, a set of dedicated and motivated growers and vintners, and grapes with near-unpronounceable names. Opinionated but fair-minded, Wilson has a gift for evoking aromas, textures and flavors. This is the next big thing in wine.
