Season 4 of Amazon’s BOSCH, based on Michael Connelly’s iconic detective (brilliantly portrayed by Titus Welliver), derives much of its storyline from the 1998 novel ANGELS FLIGHT. But the civil rights angle makes this 10-episode run as timely as ever, and several plot threads from the previous seasons are likely to be resolved to your satisfaction. This series keeps getting better with each go-round. A fifth season has been announced, and the cast and crew clearly have their work cut out for them.

SUNBURN is the best Laura Lippman novel I’ve read—part twisted romance, part crime thriller, and full of surprises. The way Ms. Lippman gets into her characters’ heads is mind-blowing.

Lee Goldberg’s TRUE FICTION is the first in what I hope will be a long-running series. The protagonist, an author of action novels, finds himself embroiled in an adventure that’s worthy of Jack Reacher himself. Funny and loaded with twists, and the hilarious book-within-the-book excerpts are a nice bonus.

One of 2018’s best and funniest films so far, Paul King’s PADDINGTON 2, is out on DVD and Blu-ray and feels like a no-brainer for Mother’s Day gifting. With most of the people involved with the first movie back (and the brilliant addition of Brendan Gleeson and Hugh Grant to the cast), this is the rare sequel that tops the original.

Michael C. Hall of TV’s DEXTER provides masterful narration on the first unabridged audio version of Stephen King’s PET SEMATARY, a book I’d avoided for decades because I’d seen the godawful movie version. Have this on hand for the upcoming hours-long commutes from Fort Walton Beach to Destin to 30A, etc.
